Southern England, late seventies.

What schools did you attend?  What was your course of study?
Ended up going from my local school to Reading University where I read ancient history.

When and how did you discover you wanted to be an author?
I’ve always wanted to write. A couple of years ago I resolved to stop procrastinating and get something done.

The major problem I had writing the book was finding the time to get it done.

Finishing the first draft of the King of Spain was a very special moment.

Yes. The King of Spain won the Fiction Fast-Track competition through Apostrophe Books, this summer: http://apostrophebooks.com/fictionfasttrack/

What problems have you encountered in your career and how did you deal with them?
Time. Finding time. Always a problem. Until someone will pay me enough to give up the day job.

Did an established writer mentor you in your early days?  If yes, how did the mentor help you?
No. But Martyn Forester at Apostrophe books has been a massive source of help since I won the competition.

What genre do you most often write?
Literary fiction

Who are the authors who most influenced your writing career?
Graham Greene, Charles Dickens, Joseph Conrad, Hunter S. Thompson, Lewis Carol, Jack Karouac.

Have you mentored an aspiring writer?  Would you mentor, if the opportunity arose?
I would gladly mentor.

What would you tell an aspiring writer who asks you for assistance?
Get to the bar / Mine’s a lager

What advice would you give to all up-and-coming writers?
Send your work in to the Fiction Fast Track competition (http://apostrophebooks.com/fictionfasttrack/).  Apostrophe Books are the cat’s pajamas.

Please tell about your other community activities.
I contribute heavily to the prosperity of our local pub.

One called MELON. One called The Parish of St. Anne.

I’m working on my next book which is called ‘the Parish of St Anne’ Its set in London and is really very good…..
