Where were you born?
On a farm in the wilderness of Northern Saskatchewan

What schools did you attend?
What was your course of study?

DeVry –  computers
NAVCan – Weather Observing certification
The Writing School – Ottawa, Ontario
CGA – Certified Accounting.

When and how did you discover you wanted to be a writer/author?
From the time I was very young – each Christmas my parents gave me Zane Grey books for Christmas.  I became fascinated with the North American west and cowboy character.  I needed to tell my own stories.  I have been interested in writing since I was a teen.

Are you a published author? Yes

Please list your books, with dates.
Hawk’s Gift – 2011 (2nd)
Alberta Wild Rose – 2011 (2nd)
Paradise on the Horizon – 2011
One Dance with a Stranger – 2011 (2nd)

Are your books still available, and from where?
All four books are all available on Amazon and other e-stores, both in print and electronic options.

Please tell about your first publication – what was it, when, how you felt when it happened, problems you may have had, etc.
I met a dear woman, Bev Jones who was successfully self-published.  She convinced me in 2006 to do the same.  I published Hawk’s Gift, before the electronic evasion was in full swing.  My attempts were not as successful as she was as I didn’t seem to have the ability to ‘sell myself’ that she did.  I am still in the middle of nowhere and have recently become enthusiast about this new option of e-books and various print-on-demand sites. I have a feeling this is a great opportunity for all writers and authors.

Please tell about the most memorable moments in your writing career.
A few years ago, Jay Thomas (Sirius radio talk show) interviewed  my husband and they discussed my books.  One of Jay Thomas’ staff read an excerpt from Alberta Wild Rose.  It was done in a humorous way but what still thrilling to listen.
A few years ago I spoke on self-publishing in Edmonton, Alberta on self-publishing.  It was an honor.

What problems have you encountered in your career and how did you deal with them?
I am, mainly by choice, a loner who likes to research, learn and write.  I have a difficult time promoting myself.  Although I rarely suffer ‘writer’s block,’ I often freeze when talking to others – especially strangers.

Did an established writer mentor you in your early days?  If yes, how did the mentor help you?
I met some authors through two groups – Alberta Romance Writer’s Association and the Romance Writer’s Association of America.  Authors like Julie Garwood or Judith Duncan have inspired and motivated me.
I met Bev Jones, who became a dear friend.  She is successfully self-published in Canada. (High Heels an’ the Oil Rigs).  Her support and help was invaluable.

What genre do you most often write?
I write contemporary, historical and suspense romance.

Who are the authors who most influenced your writing and your career?
Zane Grey; Judith McNaught; Julie Garwood;
Leo Tolstoy; John Jakes

Who are the authors your read most often?
Judith McNaught; John Jakes; Leo Tolstoy;
Dan Brown; Bill O’Reilly; Glen Beck.

Have you mentored an aspiring writer?  Would you mentor, if the opportunity arose?
I would gladly mentor

What would you tell an aspiring writer who asks you for assistance?
I would say to any aspiring writer to never give up and always follow your dreams.

What advice would you give to all up-and-coming writers?
In the writing profession the many rejections from traditional publishing companies can damage and make you doubt your abilities.  Always have your stories critiqued and edited by someone you trust and respect if possible.

What is the name of your current project?
Angels Among Us

What is the expected release date?
September 2012

What is the genre?

Is this work a stand-alone or part of a series?

What conferences/courses/webinars/workshops/seminars do you plan to attend in the next 12 months?
I am in the process of researching various webinars that might help in promoting myself as a serious author.  Also, I plan to attend as many Alberta Romance Writer workshops as I can.

What schools did you attend?
What was your course of study?

When and how did you discover you wanted to be a writer/author?
I’ve always loved reading. I grew up knowing someday I’d also want to write.

Are you a published author?
Yes

Please list your published material, with dates?
Almost Paradise – September 16, 2011

If these are books, are they still available, and from where?
Available on Amazon –http://amzn.to/uBbyVE

Please tell about your first publication – what was it, when, how you felt when it happened, problems you had, etc.
Almost Paradise, a mystery/thriller set in Hawaii, is my first publication. Seeing my book in print was as exciting as bringing a new baby into the family. It took almost no time to get a publishing contract. From that point on, there were many problems with editing.  The process was dragged out for several years, then my editor quit. My book was passed on from editor to editor and I had to rewrite many times.

Please tell about the most memorable moments in your writing career.
The most memorable moments have to be when I signed my first publishing contract, and when my book first appeared on Amazon.

What problems have you encountered in your career and how did you deal with them?
My biggest problems were with the editors assigned by my publisher. And I probably shouldn’t get into too much detail about that issue.

Did an established writer mentor you in your early days?  If yes, how did the mentor help you?
William Bernhardt has been a wonderful mentor. He showed me how to write a concise sentence, and how to formulate a plot. Most of all he encouraged me never to give up.

What genre do you most often write?

Who are the authors who most influenced your writing and your career?

Have you mentored an aspiring writer?  Would you mentor, if the opportunity arose?
I am mentoring right now

What would you tell an aspiring writer who asks you for assistance?
I would be happy to look at a sample chapter and comment on their writing style. If I feel they have a great concept for a novel and understand how to formulate a clear, concise sentence, I might consider working further with them.

What advice would you give to all up-and-coming writers?
Study the writing of the great authors of your genre. See what it is about their style that you like. If you can, attend writing retreats with an author you love. And most important, NEVER give up!
